Books that come to life to fight leprechauns, one-legged grannies with swords made from verrucas, dragons who stick their wings on with honey … hooray for the young storytellers I’ve met on author visits at Stillorgan, Shankill and Dalkey libraries over the last couple of weeks.
Against the backdrop of terrible news, from death of Jo Cox to the Orlando shooting and the Syrian conflict without an end in sight, yarn-spinning youngsters have spoken more sense to me than the real world.
As a visiting author, I get to hang out with wild imaginations and crazy dreams. Huge thanks to the brilliant staff at all libraries round the country who free up space, time and resources to laugh and reinvent the world together.
